Wine Tourism and Wine Routes in Azerbaijan

A presentation of the Iter Vitis Caucasus wine route was held on September 24 as part of a media tour organised by the State Tourism Agency to Meysari village in Shamakhi.
 
Sharifa Hasanova, Head of the Tourism Product Department of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, gave a presentation on "Wine Tourism and Wine Routes in Azerbaijan" and provided information about the "Iter Vitis Caucasus" project and its goals.
 
She said that the first innovative transnational route connecting the Caucasus countries will promote the wine regions, wineries, garage wines, and wine-related archeological excavations in these countries.
 
She also noted during the presentation that there are more than 25 wineries in Azerbaijan located along the western, northern, and north-western tourist routes, as well as internationally recognised grape varieties and the development of winemaking practices with many local alternatives.
 
She spoke about the fermentation methods, colour, taste and smell of various wines, and gave information about the wine industry of Azerbaijan as well as the countries to which wines produced in our country are exported.
 
The ATB representative also informed journalists about azerbaijanwine.az, the first online portal for winemaking in Azerbaijan in Russian and English, and said that the portal contains the country’s wine traditions, best wine practices and other important information.
 
During the presentation, she answered questions from the media.
 
Afterwards the media representatives were acquainted with the various stages of grape and wine production.
